SCHOLARSHIP 2008

On April 5, 2008, Sharon Morley and Jim Collins judged the applicants for the scholarships we annually award.  This year our group was able to award $1,400 ~ with and added $100, The Stanley and Esther Siudut Memorial Scholarship Award established by Jim Siudut and $200, The Alfred J. Mickee Sr. Memorial Scholarship Award established by Sharon Morley.  We will award the scholarships to the recipients at the June meeting.

  A word from the Scholarship Chairperson…  2008

I was very pleased to have had the opportunity to be a part of the Arts Institute Group Scholarship Committee.  The process began with a donation to the scholarship fund of $1400.00 raised by the AIG. I again was able to fund the Alfred J. Mickee Sr. Scholarship Award of $200.00.  Again, Jim and Silvana Siudut generously donated $100.00 for the Stanley & Esther Siudut Scholarship, enabling us to offer a grand total of $1700.00 this year to graduating high school seniors of the Merrimack Valley.
The next step was to write the scholarship rules and application form letters and deliver them to each guidance counselor and art teacher. The rules state that the applicant must be a graduating senior in good standing who will attend an art college or pursue an art degree.   Each student was asked to submit three original pieces of art along with a short essay expressing why they had chosen the art field.

Eight students complied with all requirements.  The students brought their work and essays to the Nevins Memorial Library on April 5th.   Jim Collins and I read the essays and discussed each piece of art.  It was a very tough decision as all the applicants are very talented.  We decided, based on both the artwork and the essays, that each student should receive a part of the scholarship award.

The recipients of the Arts Institute Group scholarships are:

Franchelly Acosta of Lawrence High School
Michael Del Muro of Haverhill High School
Sabrina Dorsainvil of Greater Lawrence Technical High School
Cameron McLeod of Andover High School
Deborah Santos of Greater Lawrence Technical High School
Samantha Palazzo of Methuen High School
Kelly Mustapha of Salem High School
Felix Rivera of Greater Lawrence Technical High School

The recipients of the Alfred J. Mickee Sr. Scholarship are:
Franchelly Acosta of Lawrence High School
Michael Del Muro of Haverhill High School

The recipient of the Stanley & Esther Siudut Scholarship is:
Deborah Santos of Greater Lawrence Technical High School

All recipients have been invited to the June 19th Arts Institute Group meeting where they will receive a year’s membership in the AIG along with their scholarship award.

Thank you to all of you who helped make these scholarships possible.

Another $300.00 was donated from the Alfred J. Mickee Sr. Scholarship Fund and $100.00 for the Stanley and Esther Siudut Memorial Scholarship Fund. We were thrilled to be able to offer $1200.00 in scholarship awards to graduating high school seniors of the Merrimack Valley.

2005 Scholarship Recipients

A word from the Scholarship Chairperson…

It is a great pleasure and honor once again to be the scholarship chairperson for the Arts Institute Group of the Merrimack Valley.  It is a wonderful experience to see the graduating seniors get help with the very high cost of college tuition.
I send out letters to all the local high schools along with scholarship forms for the students to fill out.  The students are required to write a short essay stating why they are attending college with a major in the arts and then submit three pieces of art to be judged.  For the past three years Mark Hayden, CM and I have had the pleasure of seeing some wonderful artwork created by very talented young men and women.  This year we were able to give away $950.00 in scholarship awards.  $700.00 donated by the Arts Institute Group and $250.00 donated by the Alfred J. Mickee, Sr. Scholarship Fund.

The recipients of the Arts Institute Group Awards were:

Karen M. Foucher of Salem High School received $200 Jilian Sapienza of Methuen High School received$100 Rachel McCarthy of Haverhill High School received $100 Bethany McComis of Haverhill High School received $100 Sherah Casparius of the Greater Lawrence Technical School received $100 Dmitriy Molla of North Andover High School received $100 The Recipients of the Alfred J. Mickee, Sr. Scholarships were:

Karen M. Foucher of Salem High School received $50.  Karen's work is beautiful and her technical skills will take her as far as she would like to go in the art field. Jilian Sapienza of Methuen High School received $100.  Jilian's artwork is wonderful and her commitment to help other students and the arts shows great merit and spirit.

Rachel McCarthy of Haverhill High School received $100.  Rachel's work was moving, courageous and inspiring.  She shows great courage in her artwork as well as in her life.

All awards and certificates were given out at our June Meeting.

This year we are hoping to help more students fulfill their dream by attending the art college of their choice.  If you know any graduating seniors who will be attending college next year in an art program, please make sure they contact their high school guidance counselor or the Arts Institute Group for application forms.
As you know, we are a nonprofit organization and depend solely on your contributions to maintain this fund.  This year, lets help more teens by giving generously.
Thank you for your continued support.

Sharon A. Morley
