Timothy P. Battle is "the real thing," a true "A Valley Boy," that is, a lifelong resident of The Merrimack Valley. He lives right now in Amesbury, Massachusetts, where he has begun, just recently, to make many friends and contacts in the established artistic community here.
He lives not far from downtown Amesbury, in the Market Square area of Amesbury, close to his dear friend, another artist, Ann Carriere.
Tim is most know locally for his montages of cartoon faces, drawn at contrary angles and shooting across the paper or canvas in a variety of directions. He also enjoys creating more traditional sketches or abstract paintings.
Tim just recently received an Honorable Mention at the "Art-Emotional" show at the Nevins Library in the Winter of 2007 for a grouping of small, slightly abstract cartoon nature scenes. At the time, he was studying the relationship of so-called "Skateboarder Art," the whimsical art of skateboarders and other extreme athletes, to the more commonly studied "ancient cave paintings."
Tim was very pleased when received notice for his work in the form of inquiries and, of all things, an award for his work.
He is presently a member of several artistic "clans," including the group that is developing a gallery space in Amesbury, The Millyard Center for the Arts group. He had a piece in the group's debut show which was just held recently!
He began showing his work this year at the Newburyport Art Association, and he is also now showing with the Arts Institute Group of the MerrimackValley.
Tim, who loves cartooning most of all, is still very interested in abstract art as well. He works in watercolor, pen, acrylic, and markers when he finally sits down to create a final piece. His final pieces are usually on excellent paper, but at times Tim will draw on just about anything, from a piece of paper bag to a post-it note, finding the unusual papers inspiring, almost as if the paper creates the art more than his own talented hand.
"I just love to draw. I don't care if I ever show, but the shows ARE a lot of fun," said Tim recently. "I'm really learning a lot by showing my work. I've met a lot of special people. Really. I'm so glad that I tried this. My life is so much better now. I love to show people my art now."
